Tips to Have Great Looking Packaging Design

Catering disposables, cups, plates and containers with cherries. Eco-friendly food packaging on a neutral gray background with copy space. Preserving nature and recycling concept.

Quality packaging is essential to sell any product, but it’s exponentially more important in the food industry. Let’s dive in on how to get there on your terms with a basic recipe that you can adapt at your convenience.

Start by Choosing the Right Packaging Materials

This is the first step to success. You have to remember that packages come in very diverse materials; you can choose to work with corrugated boxes, cardboard, paperboard cartons, boxboard, paper bags, plastics, and Styrofoam since these options are the most common ones.

Remember That These Materials Have Their Pros and Cons like:

  • Cardboard is very desirable because it’s cheap and biodegradable and it’s easier to print on. The problem is that wet foods are out of the question because they can turn to mush. Cardboard also is not so good to insulate and keep meals at steady temperatures.
  • Plastics are very durable, and they are the best option to prevent leakages if they are appropriately designed. The problem with this material is that it’s not biodegradable, and they can leach toxic substances into the food if they are not of the proper quality.
  • Styrofoam is a great material to insulate foods in accordance to their temperatures. But they have been labelled an even greater contaminant than plastic because it is non-biodegradable as well.

There is also a growing variety of biodegradable and compostable food packaging containers to choose from.

Think About your Clients and the Impact You Wish to Have

The longer you spend analysing your business’s food delivery needs, the easier it will be to start making decisions. Take your time to check the area covered by your delivery service; think about how long it takes for the food to travel to the farther location where you offer your services. Make a few test runs. Most of the times you will learn by direct experience no matter how much recommendations you read or get from other people.

Take your Time to Create your Brand Image

We have already mentioned established brands in these lines. Take a moment to remember the defining traits of all of them. For McDonald’s is the yellow “M,” for Burger King is their name sandwiched on a hamburger patty. For Subway is their name highlighted on green and yellow. Once you are set on an image that speaks of you, your business and visually resonate with your clients; you will have a winner. All you need to do now is create your packaging with a design team to suit the needs of your customer base.

Keep the Packaging Traits in Line with Modern Sensibilities

To this day no food packaging has been designed to be reusable. Everyone gets rid of it, but modern customers are increasingly aware of the negative impact that their disposable packaging’s have on the planet. By raising awareness about these problems, you can win brownie points with a lot of people that will perceive you as an eco-friendly brand. By investing in biodegradable and compostable catering disposables, you will take a step in the right direction to consolidate your brand and open the door to a whole new audience.
