BigCommerce.com is one of the leading players in the market today when it comes to e-commerce solutions. It allows business owners to build an online store and sell their products or services online. You don’t own the software, but you get to use it by paying a monthly fee, that’s why it’s categorized as a “software as a service (Saas)” product.
BigCommerce has existed for the past ten years, and it has been stable so far and showed steady growth. It is definitely one of the most popular platforms these days to advertise different products online (such as other well-known platforms like Click2sell.co, Shopify, etc.) because it has a wide range of features and it uses the latest technologies available.
Here are some of the pros and cons of building a store with BigCommerce:
Pros
- Multiple built-in features
The software (and platform) covers all the essentials when it comes to e-commerce solutions. It has various templates from contemporary up to professional design templates. You can opt to choose from the well-designed templates, or you can also customize the visual layout of your online store if you are tech and design-savvy. It also features various payment options and advanced shipping arrangements. BigCommerce also includes advanced marketing tools, powerful analytics tools, intuitive interface, and expansive integration with third-party Applications. What more can you ask for?
- Integration with multiple channels and e-mail marketing services
The best way to reach your target audience is by establishing your presence online in all major channels to create a better and broader awareness of your brand and make way for high revenue streams. BigCommerce has a smart integration with Amazon, eBay, Facebook, Google, Instagram, and Pinterest. It also has integration with popular e-mail marketing services such as Constant Contact, iContact, Interspire, and MailChimp.
- Business-friendly plans
Although there’s a limit for each plan in BigCommerce, you still get a high value for money. When compared to the prices of its competitors, BigCommerce offers a bit more features for the same prices range (more or less). One significant advantage of BigCommerce is that it allows an unlimited number of staff accounts, unlike in most of the competitor platforms.
Cons
- No mobile app
BigCommerce can be accessed on any mobile device, but it would have been better if there was a dedicated app for this. Unfortunately, at the moment, BigCommerce doesn’t have a mobile app. A mobile app allows quicker and smoother access to the various tools in the software, and you don’t have to enter the website on a mobile browser manually.
- Sales limits
BigCommerce sets a limit on the annual online sales depending on the plan that you have chosen. Once you have exceeded the sales limit of your plan, you will be notified that you need to upgrade it to a bigger one. There is a buffer of 1,000-2,000 orders limit per plan, and as long as you don’t exceed this, additional orders will not be prevented from coming through. Otherwise, you would need to pay an extra $150 per month for every additional $200,000 in sales.
Using BigCommerce has its pros and cons, and overall, it depends on your type of business, how big your business is, and how high are your expectations from it. When it comes to value for money and the basic set of features, BigCommerce is a good choice.
