When you want to transport goods, it is important that this happens in a safe way. Of course, you do not want the container to be broken into, stolen or the cargo to be replaced with illegal substances. How do you prevent your shipment from being tampered with?
This is how thieves and other scum work
One way to tamper with cargo is to remove the security seal on the right door, or to tamper with the container doors. The seal is then not even touched. Standard indicative seals are therefore often not sufficient. Manufacturers are always working to make the seals better and more secure, but many thieves and people who want to tamper with cargoes find a way to get to them.
A seal where the right side and the left side of the container are welded together can be wrenched with a crowbar, by also opening the left door of the container. The security seal is not touched, but the container does open. This kind of seal is outdated. It is important to use a security seal that meets the latest security requirements.
Using a secure security seal
Hoefon Security Seals is a certified producer of high security seals. High Security Seals make it difficult for third parties to tamper your products from during transport. For removing high security seals, for example bolt seals and cable seals, special equipment is required. If the seal is broken, there is clearly visible evidence of tampering. This avoids discussion between you and customer.
Hoefon security seals meet the latest security requirements and are, for example, ISO 17712 certified. With Hoefon’s advanced seals, this becomes a lot more difficult.
ISO 17712
The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has created ISO 17712 to have standard and uniform documents for classification, acceptance and cancellation. This standard applies, among other things, to security seals. A good security seal meets the following standards:
Security seals must be tested for physical strength.
Seals must be designed and constructed with features that make it obvious when they are tampered with.
The manufacturer’s security-related business processes must be examined and tested.
Those who do not use the correct security seals not only run the risk of cargo being tampered with, but also of it not being accepted. Customs can then stop the container, causing delays and extra costs. That is a shame about the whole preparation process.
