Opening a business can be scary and exciting at the same time. One of the most important aspects of surviving, besides good service, products, and backup funds, is being found. You can have a great business, but if no one can find you, it can really hamper your business. You must have great directory signs.
Directory signs could be thought of in different ways. Some think of them as the signs inside of buildings telling which way to go, such as which floor, or it could be left or right. Others think of them as leading you off the street, into their business. For the purpose of this article, it will be the latter.
So, how do you get people driving, riding, or walking by, to come into your business? With eye-catching signs, that’s how. Here is a list of some different types. Fabric signs are a good economic choice.
You can go online, send them all your pertinent information, and are shipped easily, as they are rolled up in a tube, and easily hung. They can cost anywhere from $3.00 to $9.00 per foot. It will cost more to get ones that are heavy-duty and fade resistant.
Fade-resistant is extremely important in the South and Southwest. These are great for using in temporary places, such as trade shows, fairs, food trucks, and more.
Wood signs are also popular due to their costs as well. However, remember wood will need to be replaced, but since they are economical, that is okay.
Expect to pay more for better wood. A 4X4 typically costs about $50.00 plus installation. Wood is good to give your business that “rustic” or “old-fashioned” appeal.
Some use it for modern appeal. It is all in the design.
A nice option is using what is already there, your storefront windows, and doors. Having a painted sign is nice, and if needed it can be changed to reflect any new changes or mottos of your business.
Think Starbucks, IHOP, and more. No need to order expensive signs, just clean off the old sign, and have a new one painted. The same goes for changing your hours. The same designs can be done with decals ordered offline too.
Nothing says, “We are here”, like a big neon-lit, or LED signs. These tend to cost quite a bit, anywhere from $1000-$10,000, so be prepared to shell out some money. These are great though because everyone can see your sign as they go by.
The upkeep can be a bit of a cost too, with added electricity charges, and damage from weather. Most businesses that operate late into the evening and early mornings benefit from this kind of signage. If your business only operates in the daytime hours, it is a waste, as there is no need to draw people in at night, and are harder to see in the daytime.
A nice addition to most businesses is an awning/sign over the business windows and doors. Not only are you protecting customers in inclement weather, it’s up the exterior, and advertises as well.
The costs vary according to material, and size, starting at around $500 plus installation. As a bonus, they help cut down on electricity in the Summer to let less lighting in or sun damage, to furniture, and rugs.
There are many options to choose from. The most important aspects to remember though, are the proper spelling of your business name, and a phone number. Not all people stop in right away and will want to call your business. Good luck with your new business venture!
