Describe Your Research And Writing Process. Discuss How This Process Has Helped You In The Past

Most people who watch the content writing world from the outside think writing is no big deal. I once heard someone define digital marketing writing as “You just have to grab some information and write it into your own language. Just like we did in school essays.” I didn’t have the courage at that time to tell the person how wrong they were. 

But today, I can tell everyone that writing isn’t as easy as it may seem. My name is Divya Gandotra and it’s been 8 years that I am working in the content development and marketing industry. Hence, I thought of sharing the process followed in my organisation with you all with the help of this article. My research process is primarily based on multiple reliable sources. Even when I have to match high word counts and the information isn’t readily available, I make sure my data sources are credible. I promote the same habit in my team, and I will also suggest this to all the writers out there. 

However, this task can be challenging at times because the internet is filled with information sources. Plus, it is difficult to say which ones can be trusted and which ones can’t be. That is why my priority is to look up to the authority websites of every domain. In case no relevant information can be found on these sites, I go for sources that may not have the best ranking, but their data is appropriate.

When various reliable sources finally provide me with relevant information, I begin with my writing procedure. It consists of the following steps:

Step 1: Making Notes

“Copy & Paste” are the two most horrifying words in the world of writing. In my opinion, a person can’t claim to be a writer if he/she copies even a single sentence in an extensive 1000-2000 word article. My team at EMIAC also has the same belief. Hence, we all follow this step in order to develop some unique ideas and structures for the content. 

I refine the received information and take out all the crucial points from it. This can be facts, stats, news, or any other kind of data. I also learn about the topic as much as possible to make sure I know what exactly I am giving out to the readers. 

Step 2: Outline Creation

After I know what exactly has to be mentioned in the article, the next step is to create an outline for it. Now, this step highly depends on two factors:

  • Word Count
  • Client Requirements

My primary focus remains on the second point. Even if the word count goes a little higher or remains slightly lower, it should still fulfill the client requirements.

Step 3: Writing

With the previously made notes, my learned concepts, and the designed outline, I finally move on to writing. While creating the content pieces, I take care of various factors, such as:

  • SEO techniques
  • Target audience
  • Formatting
  • The motive of the article

These basic things help me in writing an appropriate content piece as per the client’s requirements. 

Step 4: Editing

Irrespective of their experience, no writer can create a flawless piece in their first attempt. It is only editing that makes a regular article a useful one. That is why I put additional efforts while editing my content. I again cross-check the information, look into formatting, and examine the technical points mentioned earlier. 

In these four points, I accomplish the task of writing any content piece. 

This research and writing procedure has always helped me in delivering high-quality content to my clients of different domains and their respective readers. Therefore, the primary aim of reaching more audience and getting more sales was ultimately achieved. Plus, my clients were happy with my work. What else could I have asked for?
