Are you getting the most out of your prepaid SIM?

Your prepaid SIM works well provided you recharge it regularly and take the connection from a good provider. We reveal a few ways to service the connection properly.

Prepaid phone connections are a dime a dozen in India, considering the multiple service providers offering many prepaid packs to customers. You are spoilt for choice when buying a new prepaid connection. But buying the connection is the easy part – servicing it properly is slightly trickier!

As a prepaid phone user, you need to use the pack within validity and balance constraints, and recharge the connection whenever prompted to do so. Here’s how you can service your prepaid connection properly:

* Recharge using mobile wallet or UPI app.

The best way to service your prepaid connection is to recharge it regularly. You will receive an alert or prompt about the pack validity or balance running out, and you must recharge the connection at once to keep it active. The best way to do the prepaid mobile recharge is to use your service provider’s wallet or a UPI app. The mobile wallet is loaded with cash from your bank account or it is linked with your debit card. There are no fees on prepaid mobile recharge using the wallet, and your provider might also give you cashback on every recharge. You also get cashback on doing the prepaid mobile recharge using the UPI app, but there may be transaction costs of a few Paise per recharge.

* Redeem money saved on past cashback and discounts.

Most third-party recharge platforms, or the wallet from your mobile provider, offer cashback and discounts on every prepaid mobile recharge and DTH recharge. This is a great mode of savings for your prepaid connection. You can use the money saved against the next recharge, or accumulate it and make one entire recharge if the savings are high enough.

* Keep a lookout for new prepaid packs.

You might be happy with your existing prepaid pack – but what if an even better one comes along? Some leading service providers show you their new pack offerings at the time of recharge, and you have the option to change your pack to a new one at that point. Or you can simply browse new packs and offers in your spare time and check if a newer, more suitable pack has been launched in your city. You may change the pack at any time online.

* Port to another provider with better packs and network.

On the other hand, you may be dissatisfied with your mobile service provider’s current offerings and level of service. You might eventually decide to change service providers entirely. At this stage, you can discontinue the service entirely if you don’t want the prepaid connection or indeed, any connection at all. But if you want to continue using your phone with the same number, you can simply port to another provider. Take care to choose the new provider based on their pack offerings and network quality.
