Cutter block head and pump –
These are the two parts are the main functional components of a rebar cutting tool. A cutter block head consists of U-shaped support, cutter block, cutter rod, bolts and stopper. It also comprises a pump which is the power source of this tool and is housed within the cutter body, in line with the cutting blockhead.
Strong bots and cutter blocks –
A rebar cutter utilises a set of strong and sturdy bolts and cutter blocks that clasp the rebars firmly. These parts are made from materials that will last long without any warping or wear and tear.
How does a rebar cutting tool work?
A rebar cutting tool works by using components that grip the rebar and cuts it with a rod that receives force from a motor pump. One needs to place the rebar between the U-shaped support, and the cutter blocks to hold the rebar firmly in place.
The cutter rod is pushed out from its slot by the motor pump. Then, it presses down on the fixed rebar firmly and splits it at the point where the cutter’s leading edge and the cutter rod cross each other.
The power to slice through steel rods comes from motor and hydraulics that generate the required force. Rebars that are between 4 and 32mm can be easily cut by a rebar cutting tool. Larger the rod diameter, higher will be the force required to slice a rod.
Guidelines to use a rebar cutting tool efficiently
Using a rebar tool with proper control –
- First, position cutter firmly and secure a good balance with a strong footing.
- When working in an elevated height, always secure a rebar cutter to any scaffolding with strong and reliable rope.
- Do not coil up power chords.
- Ensure that all other adjusting equipment are out of the way.
Maintaining adequate safety –
- Use cutter according to manufacturer specifications. Most commonly, a hand cutter will handle up to Grade 60 steel reinforced bars.
- Never cut rebar by locking in the ON switch. Keeping the ON switch locked can lead to damage.
- Always use safety goggles when using a rebar bender or cutter. Additionally, never handle a cutter with a wet or damp hand.
- Never handle a cutter with damp hands.
Maintaining a cutter –
- Regularly inspect the tool for any damage especially on the cutting edges.
- Make sure to get rid of any dirt or iron filling in the housing and piston.
- Drain out machine hydraulics when the cutter starts to run slow or loses pressure.
