4 Anti-phishing Techniques That Really Work

The news of security breaches isn’t new to web gurus and cybersecurity experts. What’s scary is actually the news about the alarming speed with which accounts, systems, organizations, and independent users are being hacked. Yes, everything on the internet was always at the risk of being hacked, but startling figures reveal that the ratio reported has been significantly higher even since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Did you know?

  • 93% of top global organizations have confessed that they have experienced data security breach of some or the other kind in the last 1 year?
  • More than half these attacks were actually different forms of phishing attacks?
  • Most of the attacks were carried out via outbound emails?

All this information indicates that hackers are actually stealing data by launching malware attacks. Hence, we have made this guide that’ll take you through the 4 different techniques to protect your data from phishing attacks. Have a look.

  1. Passwords Will Forever be Necessary in Terms of Cybersecurity

Passwords are the security layer that a hacker has to breach first in order to get access to a system. Now, whether it’s the router password, an account password, or a system password, each one is hackable. So, making them strong and unique are the only two options to protect the system from hackers.

How to Make a Password Strong?

  • You pick a random word not a predictable one.
  • You make the random word more random by using unique symbols, letters (uppercase and lowercase, both), and numbers.
  • You make sure that it’s not less than 8 characters. 12-15 characters would be fantastic.

How to Keep it Unique?

  • You make it a habit of using a different password for every account.
  • You don’t share any password with anyone.
  • You don’t login to your system with public Wi-Fi.
  1. Network Segmentation is a Blessing for Organizations

You don’t have to store the entire information in one single network. What you instead do in network segmentation is making many independent networks and saving just one piece of information per network. It means, the information is broken down into bits. Which further means, if one network gets hacked, the others will still be safe.

  1. Protect the Router at All Costs

A router, if hacked, will give hackers access to all the devices connected to that router. The results can be disastrous.

So,

  • Make sure the router has a very strong password of its own.
  • Make sure that you patch the router from time to time.
  1. System and Software Should be Protected Too

Remember, it’s bugs that hackers use to hack into a system. So, whenever the software company provides a new update, you install it immediately. Also, running active antivirus scans on the system is a good way to ensure there’s been no security breach.

So, as long as you can practice all the tips listed above, simultaneously, you’ll be at lower risk since hackers prefer stealing from systems that are easier to breach.
